Honorary Consul Bede Dhammika Cooray
Bede Cooray's background is diverse, ranging from construction and manufacturing to accounting and business management. He has lived and worked in four countries - Sri Lanka, Dubai, Bahrain, and the United States.
Born and educated in Sri Lanka, Mr. Cooray left his native country in 1981 to the Middle East. He started work on a construction project in Dubai building the Jabel Ali harbor before being transferred to Bahrain. His forte is accounting and project management. In 1983, he resigned and moved to Honolulu to pursue an MBA in the United States. He worked for a construction company exclusively engaged in Federal and State Government contracts for ten years and left as the Vice President of Operations in order to start his own company, Accounting Solutions Inc. The company has grown steadily over the past 25 years, increasing its organizational profitability each year.
In addition to his professional successes, Mr. Cooray has traveled around the world, visiting more than 100 countries. He was the president of Rotary Club of Windward Oahu, Hawaii. He has served as the International Service Director for the same club for many years. He also holds memberships in the Kailua Chamber of Commerce, Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Colombo, Sri Lanka. As the international service director of the Rotary Club, he has visited and worked on projects aimed at benefiting Ecuador, Ghana, and Sri Lanka.
